How to get your man to eat right!

This past week I was so happy to see my cousin and his wife working together to reach a common goal. And what’s their common goal? – To live a healthier lifestyle! I watched him pull out his lunch bag filled with small containers of nuts and fruits; and his healthy lunch, which was couscous, baked turkey meatballs and veggies.  Can we say super good!!!! His wife has been meal prepping and doing an awesome job I might add. They’ve been exercising every morning before their workday starts and he is feeling more energized than ever.

Now do you really believe he could do this on his own? Not one bit! I wholeheartedly believe that we are so vital to the success of our husbands (as are they, but we’ll just focus on the ladies right now!). They love to know that we are in their corners and pushing them towards their goals. You see, my cousin needs to shed a few pounds and although his wife didn't need to, she made it her goal also. Together, they eat better, work out and ultimately lives better. Sometimes all a person needs is accountability; and girls, we got to hold them down. Getting my man to eat right requires attention and effort. Sometimes, it could even be a little more work than dealing with our son!

When my husband and I first got married, he actually believed that because he doesn’t eat meat that he was eating healthy.  He was replacing meat with a double portion of carbs! That’s not a good thing... I introduced him to a variety of veggies and other healthier items that replenished what he was lacking, which ended up transforming his pseudo healthy meals into wholesome meals.  Who knew that broccoli, chickpeas, black beans, quinoa and brown rice all have a significant amount of protein! We’ve come a long way however there’s still so much more we can do. 

Exercising and eating right is definitely an uphill battle for many of us.  Having a partner to lean on makes all the difference.  Let’s be that strong woman that helps their husbands keep their eyes on the prize. So ladies, hear this, don’t give up! Sit down with your husbands tonight and work on a meal plan for a few days.  If your not ready to change your diet, increase your activity. See if you could rent a Citi bike and go bike riding; or hey, take a spin class or try yoga here! Just one step at a time and I promise you’ll see how good it is.
