Make The Time!

Black women need to take their wellness and self care practices a lot more seriously in the new year. Black women and women of color are always more disproportionately affected. We are more prone to dying or having complications during childbirth, we have higher rates of heart disease, cancers and so much more. Collectively, we’re stretched thin mentally, physically and even spiritually.

Now what?

“I don’t have time” This is a reposnse that we all know too well. You never have the time to take care of yourself. One thing I’ve learned as a wife and mother and eldest daughter is that your loved ones can and will find a way to fend for themselves. You aren’t the end all, be all for your family. God is!

Sure you’re the center of your family and your magnificent but you are human. And you have to be constantly and consistently filled, replenished, pampered and cared for and poured into.

So yes, you may not have the time but you will have to make the time. Because if you wait to long, your body will make the time for you or you’ll run out of time.

I have found by consistently making minor changes to my daily life it can and will significantly yield great outcomes for you.

So what are some things you can do to yield those beautiful outcomes you deserve. Maybe instilling a new wellness activity or bringing an old one could help you foster a solid welness lifestyle.

Just like children, I do believe we can thrive on routines but let’s be honest, the modern day black woman doesn’t always have the time for long drawn out routines.

But you can make time and set up parameters for daily, weekly, and seasonal rhythms. Rather than focusing on keeping a tight schedule and fitting a million wellness activites into your day, focus on the things that make you happy, make you well, and make you feel good.

So yes, nourish your body with healthy fresh foods, journal, take walks, move your body, read, have an elaborate skin care routine, meditate, rest well, laugh hard, and spend time in God’s presence. Figure out your rhytms and let it become integral to who you are. And just like your body needs and does different things during your cycle, so should you switch it up a bit. The more you spend time with yourself the more you’ll become aware of what your body needs in every way.
